University Recruting

Each year colleges and universities across Canada organize on-campus recruiting sessions with potential employers to help students find internships where they can put into practice the knowledge they have acquired in class. Marcil Lavallée works together with the University of Ottawa and the Université du Québec en Outaouais to meet students in the Bachelor of Administration (Accounting) and Master of Public Accounting programs and offer a select number the opportunity to improve their skills and put their talent to use.

Come meet with our recruiters to discover what makes us stand out from other firms and what you can expect during an internship. Our recruiters will take advantage of this opportunity to get to know you and evaluate your non-technical skills. In addition to experience and good grades, we attach great importance to personality. If you're ready to meet our challenges and think you have the qualities we seek in an intern, we invite you to consult the Contact Us section to submit your application.

If our firm does not recruit at your university but meets your expectations, please call us.

We draw up a list of students to invite for interview from all applications received. Interviews take place directly on the university campus. For you, it's an opportunity to get to know us and make yourself noticed. For us, it's an efficient way to determine which candidates best fit with our team and values.

At the end of the interview process, a committee reviews each applicant. A number of factors are taken into account in the selection process, namely education, work experience, grades, volunteer work, and, of course, personality. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and bilingualism are also important assets.

Before making our final selection, we invite all candidates who were interviewed to visit our office and attend a luncheon meeting with the entire staff. This is an opportunity for you to talk to people and help them get to know you. Take advantage of the occasion to ask questions and see whether you're really interested in an internship with us. If you are, please tell us! A number of our employees—and even partners—started their careers with us as interns. Come discover our team in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

We contact candidates directly to inform them of our decision and the steps to be taken, as the case may be. Selected candidates receive a job offer by email and by mail.

Internship Overview

Our team of professionals is, without a doubt, our main asset. They are pasionnate people coming from different backgrounds and who have a ton of knowledge and experience, making them specialists in their respective field. Accounting experts, consultants, tax experts, lawyers and professional accountants: they all put their knowledge on the table to rise to the many challenges given to them.

You will be assigned to a director, who will answer your questions and accompany you throughout your internship. During your first internship, you will take part in small mandates (i.e., notices to the reader and review engagements), which will be conducted entirely at the office to ensure better supervision and coaching. It is important that you learn and develop good work methods before going on to bigger mandates. During your second internship, you will have more self-confidence and already be comfortable with our work methods. You will go to clients to perform small examinations on your own. You will also take part in certification mandates under the supervision of case managers.

We are certain you will enjoy your internship with us and have an enriching experience that will lead you to the next stage of your career.

Training

Over the years the firm has developed structured, personalized, and user-friendly training for interns with a unique human approach.

When you arrive at the firm, you will receive three to four days of training with an experienced director, who will explain in detail how to prepare a complete client file and use the various work tools available (Caseware, Caseview, Taxprep, intranet, etc.), as well as the policies and procedures to follow at the firm.

After your initial training, we will assign you to a director, who will act as a technical and professional resource person and supervise your first mandates to ensure uniformity, promote learning, and guide you in meeting set goals. You will take part in a mandate, from start to finish, that will provide you with concrete experience and prepare you for your professional examinations.

You will receive daily training and regular feedback to help you assess your progress more easily. When you have completed your biggest mandates, you will undergo a one-time evaluation of your technical knowledge and work management ability. The director in charge of the file will take the opportunity to point out areas to be improved to help you reach your full potential as quickly as possible.

You will also have the opportunity to act as second auditor in various mandates, with the support of a more experienced professional who can help you benefit from his/her experience and knowledge.

Marcil Lavallée is a team, which means you will have the opportunity to work with the partners, who take a close interest in your progress. They collaborate with their team and do everything possible to ensure you receive the best training possible.

You will develop in a welcoming, stimulating, and diversified work environment. For the more adventurous, you will have the opportunity to visit work abroad. You will return with a broader perspective and a wealth of information.

As part of your work at Marcil Lavallée, you will gain experience and professional knowledge that will prove valuable during your examinations. To learn more, consult the Preparation for the UFE section.
